Spring Picnic 2002
September meeting, 9/9/2005
The SFA Student Chapter of the Mathematical Association of America and the SFA Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society held their first meetings of the 2005-2006 academic year on Friday, September 9, 2005 in Room 214 of the Math Nursing Building. The clubs plan to meet jointly at 2:00 p.m. on the first Friday of each month during this academic year, thus the next meeting will be on Friday, October 7, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 214 of the Math/Nursing building.
The following slates of officers were elected at the September meeting.

- Treasurer – Tarcia Jones
- Mathematical Association of America, SFA Student Chapter
- President – Ken Reddix
- Vice President – Scott Reid

- Treasurer – Meghan Ward
- We discussed t-shirt designs, changing the design on the front and the style, but leaving the design on the back. We are currently looking for someone to do the legwork to Tattoo or Dolphin Printing to get t-shirts for this year.
- There was a discussion of planning a fundraiser for the trip to Wichita Falls in the Spring. No definite plans were made.
- Other activities:
- Planning a Calculus Bowl for NHS Dual Calculus Students
- Painting a Window in the UC
- Having speakers during Math Club meetings
- Having themed problem sets at monthly meetings with prizes for first team to complete the set
- Reinstate movie night
- There was a call for presenters at the spring meeting of the Texas Section of the MAA.
October meeting, 10/7/05
- Putnam Exam is going to be held on the 1st Saturday of Dec. If you want to
participate, sign up ASAP. Dr. Stovall will be having practices either once
a week or a month. Check with her about that.
- Homecoming:
*We are doing a window in the UC like last year.
*If any of you have some ideas for the window, share them with us.
- Fundraisers: We are looking at two of them.
1. Calculus Bowl for high school students in NM 101. This will be taking
place some time in the Spring Semester.
2. Collecting old tests to be sold to 098, 099 students. More info. to come
on this fundraiser.
- T-Shirts:
*Last year's t-shirts on sale if you would like one. They're pretty cool.
*If you have a new idea for this year's t-shirt, let us know.
- Bringing Back Movie Night:
*They will be held on the 3rd floor of the math building.
*Flyers will be posted ASAP
- LaTex - This is basically a computer program that can help with all of your
mathematical writings (for undergads, grads, professors). There will be
training sessions for those who are interested in the computer program and
how it works.
- Yearbook photo deadline was today!
*However we will set up a time when we can take a group shot
- Keith English had an idea about getting together with some of the other
clubs (Chemistry, Geology, Physics, etc.) and having a bowling tournement.
If any of you are interested in that idea, let us know!
- Finally, Dr. Miller gave a presentation about the Double Expectation
Theorem and "getting out of jail." If you want to know more about the
presentation, go see Dr. Miller.
There was a good crowd today and plenty of food. Hope to see you all at the
