Piney Woods Youth Orchestra was established in the fall of 2004 as an outgrowth
of the Music Preparatory Division at Stephen F. Austin University. Dr. Evgeni Raychev founded the ensemble in collaboration with his wife, Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, as they both saw the necessity for the promotion and development of the classical ensemble for young people in the area. The ample presence of talent among the young musicians contributed greatly to making this important step in the creation of the orchestra. At present, the group is composed of string players and also a small group of woodwinds, brass and piano. The students that are currently participating in the program are chosen by audition.
