Learning Activity 1
What Can Go Wrong with the Visual System

This Learning Activity addresses the following objective:

Explain the four foundational issues (acuity, field, binocularity, and cortical visual impairment) which are related to visual dysfunction. ExCET: 001 (c); VIP 2K3; Assessment: Learning Activity 1, Midterm and Final Exams.

Provide the following information on the conditions listed below.

1. List the name of the condition.

2. Under the name list TWO sources of further information on this condition.

3. Under the number 3., determine whether the condition tends to be more about ACUITY, FIELD, BINOCULARITY, COLOR, OR PROCESSING (CORTICAL VISUAL IMPAIRMENT). List the category that fits this condition best. You may have two choices that are equal. In this case you are allowed to list two (but no more than two -- I want you to think about which of these issues is the MOST important so that when you begin your functional vision assessment, you'll say "Ahhhhh, the report says high myopia!!! I should really be looking for problems with acuity!").
