Course Description
This course is designed to provide the entering graduate student with a quick review of all undergraduate music theory topics.

Textbook Requirements
Students may use any standard undergraduate music theory text including (but not limited to):

  • Benward
  • Kostka/Payne
  • Ottman
  • Aldwell/Schachter
  • Turek

none

Course Format and Participation Requirements
This course consists of a series of self-paced reviews covering a variety of music theory topics.  Each review topic culminates in a written assignment that will be provided in PDF format.  Once completed, these assignments can be submitted by scanning and emailing, faxing, turning in in person, or regular mail.  Once all assignments are complete a final exam will be administered.

On-campus or Face-to-Face Meeting Requirements
There are no required face-to-face meetings.  Those students who wish to meet for further explanation may schedule appointments.

Course Assessment
Assignments - 60%; Final Exam - 40%

Before the Course Begins

  • Complete the Before Class Starts Checklist .
  • Register and pay for the course just as you would any other SFA course.
  • As soon as you are registered, please send an email message to the instructor.
  • Carefully read and complete all steps of Getting a WebCT ID and Password.
