My research interests focus on avian behavioral ecology and evolution:

 

  • Habitat use patterns of birds in upland pine habitats in East Texas.
    • Red-cockaded woodpeckers
    • Bachman's sparrows
    • Brown-headed nuthatches
  • Evolution of cooperative breeding and parental care behavior in birds
    • Scrub-jays
    • Brown-headed nuthatches
    • Bee-eaters
  • Ecology and evolution of coloniality in birds
    • Blue-tailed bee-eaters on Kinmen Island, Taiwan

Graduate students working with me have examined a diversity of other issues during their thesis research.
